Kirkland vs Angulo, turned out to be a classic fight that the world of Boxing and Boxing fans have been missing for a while, and what a fight is was. Alfredo was off to a fast start and Kirkland had come to fight on Saturday night in Cancun, Mexico, the fans were going to get their monies worth, little did they realize that they just might be seeing the "Fight of the Year", even though it only went six rounds. But what a six round fight this was.
Angulo put Kirkland on the canvas with a right on the kisser... in the first round. Kirkland bounced right back up and did not seem to flustered... Angulo went right after Kirkland and probably thought he had his man down and out, the fight turned into a slug fest from that moment on. Angulo seemed to tire towards the end of the round, he had thrown at least 150punches and Kirkland was hanging in there throwing and landing just as many punches when he connected with a punch that sent Alfredo Angulo on his keister... Alfredo managed to get up but looked like he had just got off of one of those ride that spin you round, like a washing machine..
Rounds 2 through 6 turned out to be very exciting, with each man, exchanging punches in the center of the ring just like Rockem Sockem Robots. (A toy that I had as a kid) In the end Kirkland seemed to be the stronger fighter, landing the harder punches and throwing the infamous "UPPERCUT" and landing it all night long right on Angulo's tough Mexican chin.
By the way it was the first time that Angulo had been knocked down in any of his 22 previous fights. Kirkland had tasted the canvas before, in his past fights he had been knocked down, 3 tims in the Ishida fight.
In the end Kirkland won the fight by a TKO in the 6th round of this classic fight. Angulo just seemed to run out of fuel and he did not know how to handle the knock down in round one and from there on out he seemed to be in a war that he had not planned for.. Maybe, just maybe we will be fortunate enough to see these two fighters, go at it again in a rematch down the road...
