Ernie "Indian Red" Lopez has passed away.

Ernie "Indian Red" Lopez, pictured with Howie Steinler and little brother Danny, passed away recently. He fought out of Alhambra, CA.
He was the older brother of former Featherweight Champion Danny "Little Red" Lopez. Erine was quite the fighter and had great fight with guys like Emile Griffith, Jose Napoloes and Hedgemon Lewis just to name a few. Ernie ended up with a ring record of 47 wins, 14 losses and 1 draw. He was the number one contender in the Welterweight Division at one time back in the early 70's.

You did not hear much about Ernie in recent years. He recently reunited with his brother Danny, who I spoke with about three weeks ago at a Golf Tournament for The World Boxing Hall of Fame in He
mit, CA.

He was a crowd favorite at the Olympic in Los Angeles, CA, He will be missed by all true fight fans who saw him in action.
